The purpose of Dislocation Allowance (DLA) is to partially reimburse a service member for the expenses incurred in relocating during a PCS, an evacuation, or other housing moves ordered for the Government’s convenience.

Do you pay back DLA army?

The allowance does not have to be paid back. “The policy still requires the use of the government travel card for all other travel allowances.” To request a DLA advance, Soldiers need to fill out the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Form 9114.

Do you get DLA when you PCS?

Any service member moving their household on PCS orders and who is not assigned to live in single-type government housing – such as the barracks – should receive a DLA. You can get the latest DLA rates from the Defense Travel Management Office, which lists rates based on pay grade and dependent status.

Is DLA authorized for retirement?

You will not be authorized DLA for moves after separation or retirement. DLA is not authorized for moves within government-owned or privatized housing due to a change in family size or the service member’s promotion.
